‘Sustainability has to be a major focus for foodservice equipment manufacturers’
Winterhalter is one of the first catering equipment manufacturers to achieve Approved Supplier status in the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s (SRA) new approval programme.
In order to become an approved supplier, manufacturers and their products have to pass a strict assessment programme. The SRA particularly praised the fact that, in operation, Winterhalter’s warewashers give “improvements in energy efficiency [and] water consumption and reductions in the amount of waste generated.”
Winterhalter is at the cutting edge in terms of developing warewash technologies that save energy, water and chemical consumption. Its PT pass through machines are the first to have energy-saving heat exchangers fitted as standard, reducing consumption by 10%. The latest version, the PT ClimatePlus, not only reduces energy consumption by over 50%, compared to previous models, but also improves the working environment by pumping cooled air into the kitchen, if the ambient temperature is over 25°C.
“SRA approval underlines the credibility of our resource-saving technologies,” says Paul Crowley, marketing manager at Winterhalter UK. “Sustainability has to be a major focus for all foodservice equipment manufacturers and we are delighted to be part of the new programme.”
Other areas highlighted by the SRA included Winterhalter’s environmental policy. The Association noted that, as well as being ISO14001 registered, the company is investing in calculating its carbon footprint and that its products are up to 96% recyclable, with energy- and water-saving devices fitted as standard.
