Get hands-on with the latest Rational combi steamer at the LACA Main Event

The Main Event, LACA conference and exhibition, Hilton Birmingham Metropole, 9th-11th July 2014

Rational's new SelfCookingCenter 5 SensesAt 2014’s LACA Main Event visitors can get hands-on experience with the new SelfCookingCenter 5 Senses combi steamer. The company says its SelfCookingCenter 5 Senses is the first intelligent commercial cooking appliance that actually interacts with chefs, getting to know the way they work so that, together, the chef and their combi can always deliver the best possible cooking results.

Rational’s SelfCookingCenters are the market leading combi steamer and the cooking appliance of choice for most caterers in education. It saves time, energy and money whilst cooking food perfectly, every time.

The latest Rational is perfect for school catering, cooking everything from pies to paninis, from jacket potatoes to muffins and from bread to pizza –all at the touch of a button, and all with perfect results. The easy-to-use new unit even features an upgraded automatic cleaning system. The new system, called Efficient CareControl, uses reformulated cleaning tablets that last 50% longer than previous versions, reducing costs and minimising environmental impact.

At the heart of the new combi is its interactive cooking control (iCookingControl) technology.  It ensures food is prepared exactly the way the chef wants, by monitoring, controlling and adjusting temperature, time, air speed and the cooking climate – that is, the balance of dry heat and steam.  The iCookingControl features a monitor that enables the chef to see exactly what is happening, at any time.  It also tells the chef why any adjustments to the cooking process have been implemented.  This means cooking time is reduced and optimised.

For mixed loads, the iLevelControl feature not only shows staff which foods are compatible to be cooked at the same time, but also ensures each is prepared using the chef’s preferred specifications and cooking methods.  It adjusts the time for each shelf according to the amount of food loaded and how often, and for how long, the door is opened during the cooking process.  It even alerts the chef when each shelf is ready, making it easy for chefs to cook different foods simultaneously, saving time, energy and costs.

Because it is multifunctional, a SelfCookingCenter saves space, in fact it can replace 40 to 50% of standard appliances, reducing the kitchen footprint by at least 30%.  Options such as the Ultravent condensation hood, which eliminates unwanted cooking fumes and steam, can do away with the need for extra, expensive extraction systems. The SelfCookingCenter 5 Senses control panel simplifies operating the new combi steamer because it constantly learns and automatically adjusts to the habits of the individual user.

Dedicated to providing unrivalled after sales advice and support for its customers, Rational has launched Academy School for Schools, an exclusive series of free training and development seminars aimed at school caterers using the SelfCookingCenter combi steamer. The seminars offer a chance for school caterers to explore the versatility of the Rational and get expert advice on how to make the best out of the unit.

For those caterers considering purchasing a SelfCookingCenter, Rational also offers free CookingLive Seminars. These seminars provide an opportunity for chefs to experience the performance of the SelfCookingCenter, with no obligation to purchase. They are designed to give a taste of the latest combi cooking technology and techniques, with expert chefs on hand to answer any questions on cooking with combination ovens.
