Winterhalter’s ground-breaking Energy+ warewashers are helping school kitchens save thousands of pounds in operating costs, every year.
The latest figures for Winterhalter’s energy saving pass through dishwashers, the GS500 Energy+ machines, show that one machine can save over £1,250 in running costs per year, every year. And that figure is based on current energy prices. Factor in the expected increases in costs and the savings are certain to get even higher.
Warewashers are significant consumers of energy, water and chemicals and the Energy+ models focus on reducing consumption in all three areas. They do this by using two new and separate technologies. Firstly they incorporate heat exchangers that reuse the dishwasher’s waste heat. Second, they have a new rinse system that means the machines consume less water, less energy and less chemicals.
Winterhalter’s new figures, listed in the company’s ‘Operating Costs Savings Passbook’, estimate that each technology can save around 23% of a machine’s annual running costs. The savings figures quoted here are for the GS 515 Energy+, fitted with the new rinse system, and assume a workload of 125 racks per day, 365 days per year. The GS 515 Energy+ can handle racks up to a maximum size of 500 x 600mm and has a theoretical capacity of 70 racks per hour.
Inside the Energy+ is an air-to-water heat exchanger that takes the waste steam from a GS 500 pass through dishwasher and uses it to heat the incoming fresh water. An additional water-to-water heat exchanger recycles the heat from the wastewater, using it to further heat the incoming fresh water.
The Energy+ system reduces the total connected load by up to 6 kW.
Meanwhile the GS 500’s new rinse system uses a radical new rinse arm design that significantly reduces water consumption. Since the unit uses less water, it also uses less energy (which is required to heat the water), less detergent and less rinse aid.
