Manitowoc ice machines use less water and less energy

GREEN ICE!

Ice Machines from Manitowoc Manitowoc has invested heavily in developing ‘green’ ice machines that are both energy efficient and manufactured from materials that cause the least environmental impact. Manitowoc ice machines are distributed in the UK by Winterhalter, itself a leading proponent in producing energy efficient machines in the dish and glasswashing field.

Manitowoc is now using an environmentally-friendly, water-based foam insulation in its ice machines and storage bins. Water is considered to have zero direct global warming potential and is completely free of any concerns over toxicity, flammability or worker safety, the company claims.

The recent introduction of the S-Series ice machines has put Manitowoc at the forefront of technology and conservation in commercial ice machines. By May 2008, over 97% of Manitowoc’s cube ice machines will meet or exceed the stringent US Energy Star and CEE performance data. The Manitowoc ice machines that have earned the Energy Star rating are up to 15% more energy and water efficient than standard models.

"Although Energy Star is a US standard, the list of qualifying machines enables UK customers to quickly identify the most energy efficient models that suit their requirements," says Paul Crowley of Winterhalter. An Energy Star savings calculator also gives an indication of what savings can be made over the lifetime of an energy efficient ice machine."

Energy figures for the S-1470 Series machines are impressive – they use only 4.5kWh of energy per 45.4kg of ice with a water consumption of 68.1 litres per 45.4kg of ice and can produce up to 560.2kg of ice in 24 hours. The Energy Savings calculator suggests that the extra purchase cost of an energy efficient ice machine will be recovered in under 9 months.
