Last night TPW hit the town to say so long to Rachael, who’s off to Camp America (hello mudda, hello fadda). We had a great time and ended up at Zizzi’s in Norwich. They had a fire last year so when the alarm went off, just before we ordered food, there was an orderly panic towards the doors (compounded by folk dashing back to their tables to grab their drinks for the duration).
We hung around outside, sipping our wine, while the fire engine, ambulance and emergency vehicles turned up, looking bored. The hen party from the next table were having a riot with the firemen (once it was clear there was no fire) and after half an hour or so we were let back in, along with all the other diners who hadn’t scarpered without paying their bill.
Service was understandably stretched and, since we had the chef’s table, the girls had plenty of time to chat up to the guys in the theatre-style kitchen. (We’d had a sufficiency to drink and nothing to eat at this rather late stage).
We happen to know that Zizzi often use undercounter fridges from our wonderful client, True Refrigeration. So Rachael asked a chef: ‘Do you have True refrigeration here?’ and he said ‘Yes, it’s certainly true we have refrigeration.’ So she said ‘No, I mean is it True?’ At this he looked nonplussed and said, ‘Yeah, it’s really here’ (pointing below the counter). By this stage we were all laughing (maybe you had to be there), so Rachael said ‘No, is it CALLED True?’ and he said ‘Yes, it’s really cold.’
Which you’d expect, it being True.
Haha! Sorry to have missed the fun. And ‘Bon Voyage’ to Rachael – I hope she has a great time.
You’re sorry you missed the firemen!
All the best to Rachael, sounds like a night to remember!
And all of that coming from a chef in lovely pink Crocs!
