The right equipment improves sustainability while saving money
With the issue of improving sustainability increasingly important for many businesses, choosing the right equipment can make a huge difference. Winterhalter’s Pass through Workhorse dishwashers feature upgrades and innovations that reduce energy and water consumption, as well as enhancing usability and reliability.
The latest PT Workhorse (known as the PT Series) was developed following on from a process of talking to customers, dealers, consultants and business partners, which was looking not just for big concepts that would deliver maximum real-world benefits but also small, attention-to-detail points that enhance reliability and make life easier for operators.
It includes a range of features designed to reduce energy and water usage as far as possible, without compromising wash quality. For example, the PT’s EnergyLight heat recovery system is fitted as standard. This recycles heat from the wash water to help heat incoming cold water, reducing energy consumption by up to 10%. Meanwhile the effective insulation, with double walled construction, keeps heat (and energy) in the machine, helping to keep costs down.
Further energy savings can be made through optional features such as the EnergyPlus air heat recovery system, which recycles the steam generated during washing to heat incoming water. As well as improving working conditions, by stopping steam being released when the hood is opened after the wash cycle, it can reduce energy costs by up to 15%.
These savings can be further increased with the driven rinse system, which cuts water use by up to 15% per wash cycle, lowering the overall operating running costs by 12%. Combining all the savings these systems produce can reduce running costs by up to 32%.
For the ultimate in energy saving, there’s the PT ClimatePlus heat pump. This not only slashes energy consumption by 53%, but also acts as an air conditioner, sucking hot air in from the kitchen and pumping it back out cool and dry, having recycled the heat!
Sustainability goes beyond just reducing resource consumption. Winterhalter warewashers are designed to have a working life of ten years or more, and the PT is no exception. Using Winterhalter’s specialist service support, water treatment systems and chemical products not only ensures the best wash results, but also helps to maximise the equipment’s working life. Winterhalter also supplies a range of green cleaning chemicals which have all been awarded the EU Ecolabel. Investing in machines with a long service life, and ensuring they are well looked after, is much better for the planet than buying equipment that needs replacing every few years.
Winterhalter’s ConnectedWash system allows a business to remotely monitor its machines and can make recommendations on how to improve efficiencies. The powerful control system also alerts users to errors or issues that affect energy usage through the touch screen control panel. The PT also features special eco wash programs, which extend the wash cycle to reduce energy consumption.
“Everyone’s looking for ways to improve sustainability,” says Paul Crowley, marketing development manager at Winterhalter UK. “It makes sense not just from a green standpoint but it also for the business, as it saves money. Choosing top of the line equipment like the PT dishwasher guarantees that you’re getting the best possible quality of cleaning as well as reducing your kitchen’s environmental footprint and slashing your running costs.”
