Glittering charity ball at Wolterton Hall: final line up unveiled
On Saturday June 11 people in Norfolk have the chance to party like its 1799, in the magnificent state rooms of Wolterton Hall, near Aylsham. Organisers of the Glitterati Ball, in aid of Norfolk-based charity Hospice Ethiopia, have announced the final line up of entertainments for a night that promises to be big on fun as well as fund raising.
The Walpole family built Wolterton Hall in the 18th century. Its current owners, Peter Sheppard and Keith Day, have generously agreed to host the ball in some of the Hall’s most historic and important rooms, including the Venetian Room, the Saloon and the Portrait Room. Sir Norman Lamb is patron of the ball.
“We are so looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Ball,” says Sue Mumford, chair of Hospice Ethiopia UK. “The surroundings and the programme of entertainments should make for an unforgettable night. Anyone who’d like an idea of where people partied in 1799 can come along and find out!”
A selection of outstanding lots are up for auction on the night, such as works of art, including a painting by landscape and marine artist Andrew King ROI IEA EAGMA and a sculpture by Baron Tremain. Other lots range from a break in a holiday cottage in Tintagel to bespoke jewellery to tea at the House of Commons. There is also a raffle with great prizes including gift vouchers from some of Norfolk’s leading independent stores, tennis lessons and two hours gardening from a specialist professional company.
For music lovers there’s a smorgasbord of delights: award-winning soprano Emma Nuule will greet guests with a mix of light opera and musical theatre favourites; there’ll be a classical quartet while guests mingle; and later there’s dancing to popular Norfolk band the Spice Gits.
Guests will be met with a glass of bubbly and they will be treated to a three course buffet meal based on locally sourced ingredients. There is also a wine bar, and a bottle of bubbly for the most glittering outfit.
“This is such an important event for us in terms of fundraising,” says Sue. “Every penny goes to help desperate people and their families in Ethiopia, and to give medics in Africa training in palliative care, so that they can bring relief to the dying, too.”
