Christmas Time, Ice Time, Cocktail Time
Christmas is the time for bars and bistros to offer customers exciting, seasonally-themed drinks such as ‘Santa’s spiced rum and ginger cocktail’ or a ‘Cranberry and vodka cracker’. Customers are always looking for something different to make the festive season go with a zing and such fun items are a real sales boost. The key to serving fabulous cocktails is filling the glasses with good quality ice cubes to cool the drinks and enhance presentation.
Manitowoc‘s Q 130 Series undercounter ice cube maker is ideal for smaller establishments where space is a premium but a constant supply of ice is a must. Available from Classeq, the Q 130 is only 83cm high, 66cm wide and 39cm deep and its smart stainless steel exterior fits in with most back-bar décor. To save space the Q 130’s integral storage bin has a slide up and over lid that tucks neatly under the ice machine top cover.
With a daily output of up to 67kg of hard, long-lasting, crystal clear ice, the Q 130 has a patented ice damper system to maximise storage capacity to 36.6kg of ice. It is simple to clean and maintain, being fitted with Manitowoc’s cleaning and sanitizing technology, has easily removable parts for access and, in line with all Manitowoc’s machines, is energy efficient to reduce running costs and save resources.
The Q 130 Series is available in dice and half-dice ice versions. The half dice ‘cube’ measures 9 x 29 x 22mm and the dice ice is about 22mm square. Half dice ice is the favourite for many cocktails, is easy to blend down and kind to blender blades. The dice ice melts very slowly, and gives superb chilling power to a drink. It can also be used for bulk ice use, such as in ice buckets or for filling beer bottle dumps.
As for ‘Santa’s spiced rum and ginger cocktail’ – it’s very easy to make. Simply pack a highball glass with good quality ice, pour in a measure of golden spiced rum and fill with the best ginger beer. Squeeze in a lime wedge. Stir to mix and serve immediately.
