HCA Forum 2023: Williams’ greener Grab & Go merchandisers for hospital caterers

Latest Multideck saves 60% on energy use

Stand M35, HCA Forum, Hilton Birmingham Metropole, April 20-21 2023

Grab and Go has become increasingly popular in hospitals, for staff, patients and visitors.  At the HCA Forum Williams will focus on its latest energy-saving Multideck merchandisers, showing visitors how to minimise running costs while maximising food safety.

On stand will be the R100-HFD, which has three shelves as standard and a capacity of 269 litres.  It features a host of energy-saving features, including natural hydrocarbon refrigerant which, as well as offering superior thermodynamic properties, has low GWP (global warming potential) and zero ODP (ozone depletion potential).

However, for hospitals where energy saving is a number one priority, the answer for Grab and Go is doors.  The Williams Multideck is available with hinged doors for maximum efficiency.  In tests, the doors saved over 60% in energy consumption compared to the equivalent open fronted models.  For the R100 model on show, that’s equivalent to a saving of £619.50 per year (based on a rate of 35p per kWh).

The doors are self-closing, to ensure the internal temperature remains consistently low.  Their glass fronts, combined with the Multideck’s double-walled glass ends, give customers clear, panoramic views of the products on offer.  Since less cold air escapes, compared to open-fronted models, the doors also prevent ‘cold aisle syndrome’ and deliver significant savings on heating costs in the restaurant or retail area.

“Glass doors allow customers to see and access merchandise easily, while making a huge impact on running costs,” says Malcolm Harling, sales and marketing director of Williams Refrigeration.  “For any hospital interested in sustainability and reducing costs, they are a winning solution.”

Williams Refrigeration offers a comprehensive range of commercial refrigeration including gastronorm cabinets and counters, specialist bakery equipment, coldrooms, multidecks and blast chillers.
