The Wolterton Hall Glitterati Ball

Sparkling event in aid of Norfolk charity supporting Hospice Ethiopia

Wolterton Hall will open its doors for a sparkling event called The Glitterati Ball, and it’s all in aid of charity.  The Ball is on Saturday, June 11th and takes place in the main state rooms of the Hall, including the Venetian Room, the Saloon and the Portrait Room.  A dazzling selection of entertainments is promised and guests will be treated to a champagne reception and a three course buffet dinner – all for £65, or just £50 for those taking advantage of the early bird discount, which is available until April 15th.

The Glitterati Ball is being held at Wolterton Hall by kind permission of owners Peter Sheppard and Keith Day.  Sir Norman Lamb is the patron of the event.  Tickets, including early bird discount tickets, can be booked via Eventbrite (go to Eventbrite.co.uk and search Glitterati Ball or click here.)

The evening begins at 7.30pm with a glass or two of champagne or cordial.  The entertainments include live music, with both a classical recital and a dance band, along with an auction of promises, a raffle, a photo booth and a wine bar.  There’s also the chance for visitors to see some of the fascinating restoration work that Peter and Keith are undertaking in the building and grounds of this magnificent country mansion, once the home of the Walpole family.

The Glitterati Ball is in aid of the Norfolk-based charity Hospice Ethiopia UK.  “Glitter is the name of the game and we hope people will dress to impress,” says Sue Mumford, chair of Hospice Ethiopia UK.  “The most sparkling outfit will win the wearer a bottle of bubbly!”

The charity is run entirely by volunteers whose sole aim is to raise much-needed funds for Hospice Ethiopia.  Every penny raised goes to the Hospice, and it’s hoped that the Ball will make a significant contribution.

Ethiopia has a population of over 117 million yet, until recently, Hospice Ethiopia was its only hospice.  As well as looking after hundreds of critically ill patients in Addis Ababa, Hospice Ethiopia is one of the leading medical educational centres in the Horn of Africa, training doctors and nurses in palliative care.  Its work brings hope to thousands of desperate people who have no-one else to support them.  Despite being a centre of excellence, Hospice Ethiopia relies entirely on charitable donations to survive.

“We are so grateful to Peter and Keith for their generosity in loaning us their magnificent home,” says Sue.  “I know this is going to be a simply wonderful event, and I’m hoping we can raise the roof – along with lots of cash – to support this tremendous cause.”
