Utopia’s paper straws gain EN13432 accreditation
The environmental movement away from single-use plastic over the last year has been a key story within the hospitality industry. The focal point of this has been the plastic straw. There has been an overwhelming rejection of this type of straw by customers forcing foodservice operators to start sourcing paper straws.
Utopia has responded by expanding its environmentally friendly product range and working towards increasing the transparency of the environmental credentials of its paper straws. After six months of consultations its range of paper straws has now received EN13432:2000 accreditation. This certification specifically focuses on compostability, making sure Utopia’s non-metallic paper straws adhere to strict standards concerning biodegrading so they only have a positive impact on the environment. In other words they actually give something back to the earth when their useful life is over.
In line with Utopia’s focus on innovation and bringing the best products to market, the paper straw range features different styles, patterns and diameters, suitable for any occasion and foodservice operation. Utopia boasts the largest paper straw range in the market and is continuing to grow it. All are made from FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified paper and are completely food safe. The expanding range of paper straws includes stripes, metallics and full solid colour as well as a variety of patterns. Sizes in cocktail (14cm), Bottle (26cm) and Jumbo (23cm) compliment the standard 20cm length. Other environmentally friendly options from Utopia include re-useable metal straws and stirrers, wooden stirrers and bamboo skewers.
