From waste to warranties: CFSP Enhance seminar enhances industry knowledge

Plus – the launch of PFS, delivering the fundamentals of foodservice knowledge

The first CFSP Enhance seminar took place on June 29th at the First Choice Group conference facility, Blakeney Way, Kingswood Lakeside, Cannock WS11 8LD.

CFSP Enhance is designed to build on the knowledge gained through the CFSP programme, bringing graduates up to speed on the latest industry issues.  The first CFSP Enhance seminar was attended by 80 CFSP graduates.  The key presentation was led by foodservice consultant Doug Fryett, who covered areas as diverse as warranties and food waste.  He also touched on topics including FOG (fats, oil and grease), legal requirements for gas and electricity, and the pains of running a foodservice operation.

Another key presentation saw the unveiling of a new education initiative that will attract and support people entering the foodservice industry.  Principals of Foodservice, or PFS, explains how the industry works and gives newcomers real insight and a good start in their new career.  It can be delivered by CFSP graduates and is equally suited to foodservice operator companies and the supply chain.  Based around a slide presentation, PFS delivers the fundamentals of foodservice and is designed to be easily adapted to suit the audience.

The day also featured presentations from Mandy Meadway of Denny Training, who introduced the specially devised CESA training programme focussed on the sector, which looks at how to be effective in developing sales and managing sales relationships.  Amongst other areas, she considered ways to understand the client perspective and increase customer loyalty.

Stuart Campbell of Specifi presented SP Cloud, an online tool that offers a simple way to create a basic kitchen design, even for people with no CAD training.  A drag and drop feature makes creating the layout a fast process, and it’s easy to export the results in PDF, JPG or PNG formats.  CFSP graduates can trial SP Cloud for free for 90 days.

“It was great to see so many CFSP attendees at this first Enhance Seminar,” says Simon Frost, chair of the CESA Education Advisory Group.  “Feedback for the event was excellent, with many commenting on how useful and informative it had been – which was exactly what we were aiming for – and we look forward to welcoming more CFSP graduates to future Enhance seminars.”
