It’s a freezer, or a fridge, in a drawer
British manufacturer Precision has launched a new self-contained refrigerated drawer that the company claims is the most energy efficient on the market – and the most economic to buy.
The drawer, model VSS 121, is part of the Space Saver range and is designed to be as versatile as possible. Its fire-rated worktop means cooking equipment such as a grill can be mounted on top of a single unit. Alternatively, two drawers can be stacked to save space and create a work-level countertop. The drawer’s temperature range is from +15°C to – 22°C, meaning it can be used for every refrigerated storage application. It can be switched from refrigerator to freezer at the touch of a button.
The drawer will hold up to 4 GN1/1 pans and measures 1100mm(w) x 200mm(d) x 285mm(h).
Energy-saving is a key feature. Precision’s iCool controller minimises power consumption during quiet periods, while its microprocessor uses the latest generation fuzzy logic to provide totally accurate temperature control. EC fan technology also reduces energy use. In tests using like-for-like models running on HFC refrigerants, the Precision drawer consumed 26% less power than its nearest competitor.
The VSS 121’s practical design features include stainless steel construction throughout, a front-vented self-contained refrigeration system for ease of service, and automatic defrost. The waste heat evaporator system eliminates the need for a drain. Options include a worktop splashback.
“Self-contained refrigerated drawers are premium products that have to offer the operator maximum versatility,” says Precision managing director Nick Williams. “We believe the VSS 121 is the most versatile on the market, the most practical and the most economic to buy and run.”
