Have you ever looked at a shortened URL, wondered where it might lead and felt nervous about clicking on it? Apparently, malware distributors, virus propagators and other deviants of the hyposphere use shortened URLs to get you to somewhere that you really don’t want to be.
We’ve just discovered a free online tool called ‘Unshorten It’ that decodes shortened URLs and shows you the full web addresses so you can decide whether it’s nice or nasty before you get there. It’s really simple -enter a URL at the unshorten.it web site (actually based in Edinburgh according to Zen) and you’ll a brief description of the destination page content and an estimated safety rating.
