The Magnum, a busy Edinburgh bar and restaurant, relies on True refrigeration

It’s True, it’s reliable

The Magnum bar and restaurant is located in Edinburgh’s New Town, just a short walk from the city centre and close to the Playhouse Theatre.  It’s perfect for a quick pre-theatre snack, to enjoy a more leisurely dining experience or to grab an after-show drink while waiting to see if any actors or comedians drop by.

Chris Graham, who bought the bar about four years ago, aims to make sure it remains one of Edinburgh’s best restaurants.  From the start he set about specifying equipment he knew he could rely on.

“It gets pretty manic here in the Festival time,” he explains. “So we need something that won’t let us down.”

For both back bar and kitchen refrigeration, The Magnum used Cooling Solutions of Livingston to install True refrigeration units.  Back bar, the Magnum has a True GDM9E glass door bottle cooler and in the kitchen a True TGU4 undercounter four-door refrigeration unit.

“True offered real value for money,” said Chris Graham. “We looked at more expensive refrigeration but True units are built strongly, have a good reputation for reliability and what’s more the bottle cooler looks very smart behind the bar. It makes for a good display. The sliding door design means it fits easily into our narrow bar, and staff can get the bottles out without causing an obstruction.”

The kitchen presents a tight working area as well and had to be well planned. To save space the top of the True undercounter refrigerator doubles as workspace.

“This is great for speed and efficiency,” explains Chris Graham. “We can store the chilled products directly below the workspace and because it is a four-door model we can separate out the meat, fish, vegetables and desserts. It means everything is stored safely but is instantly accessible.”

True is so confident on the reliability of its refrigeration that it offers a full five-year warranty on compressors and a three-year warranty on parts.

“We wanted something that we wouldn’t have to bother about,” says Chris Graham. “With these True units we’ve found it. All we have to do is check the seals and keep them clean. They only need servicing once a year. It couldn’t be much simpler.”

The complete True Refrigeration range is available through dealers across the UK and Ireland.  For more information visit www.truemfg.com/uk or call True UK on +44 (0) 1709 888888.
