Nearly every pub and club will have an undercounter glasswasher behind the bar. And although glasswashers aren’t sexy, like (say) bottle coolers and drinks units, they need to be factored in to the bar design right from the start. British glasswasher manufacturer Classeq offers this advice to help operators get the bar set up for efficient glasswashing.
- Make sure that there’s enough room for a large enough glasswasher to cope with the bar’s busiest periods. Get advice from the experts about what size model will do the job.
- Consider the glasswasher’s position in terms of the heat and steam it will generate – neither staff nor customers want wafts of hot water vapour in their faces whenever the machine is opened.
- Make sure there’s plenty of room to open the glasswasher fully for loading and emptying. This is going to be especially important at busy times – staff shouldn’t be tripping over themselves because there’s not enough room.
- If the backbar area gets warm when it’s busy, choose a double-skinned, insulated glasswasher such as the Classeq Duo. This will trap the heat in the machine, not only helping keep the area cool but also cutting energy costs.
- Double-skinned models also reduce noise levels when the glasswasher is operating.
- Some glasswashers need external pumps and chemical and rinse aid dispensers, which means they’ll need extra space. If the backbar area is limited select a machine with integral pumps and dispensers.
- These days most pubs are concerned about energy prices and running costs. Chose glasswashers with low water consumption wash tanks coupled with smart wash filter systems, such as Classeq’s Eco and Duo models. These features minimise water, detergent and energy costs while still delivering sparkling clean glasses.
- English isn’t the first language for many workers in the hospitality industry, so make sure the glasswasher is easy to use. Ideally buy one with simple, clear, language-free controls.
Classeq’s Eco and Duo back bar glasswashers are available in a variety of sizes, with rack capacities ranging from 12 to 25 pint glasses. The wash cycle of as little as two minutes, means they have the capacity to maintain a steady supply of clean glasses in the bar, even in busy periods. They are available from distributors nationally and have a full one-year parts and labour warranty.
