The might of the multiple retailers has been hitting the headlines again recently.  Maybe the under-pressure independent stores in market towns across the UK should take a leaf out of Louisville’s campaign of a few Keeping it weirdyears ago.  It played on the idea that shoppers actually like the uniqueness that smaller independent shops have, and many are willing to pay extra to keep them alive.  They just need a gentle reminder every now and then.  Weird, huh?
