British Potato 2009,Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate,25 & 26 November
As the UK’s largest potato supplier, Greenvale AP will unveil what tomorrow’s best dressed tubers will be wearing when it launches its new company branding at the British Potato Show 2009. Visitors will also be able to taste tomorrow’s potatoes, as the company offers samples of its latest varieties in recipes selected to highlight their individual characteristics and tastes.
Sue Gilbert, Greenvale’s marketing manager, explains the company’s new marketing strategy: "The focus is on two key areas of the business: our green credentials and our partnerships, with growers, suppliers and customers. The new branding is simple, sharp and clean, underlining our commitment to push forward with partners in the development of sustainable agronomy."
For example, Greenvale’s work with the SCRI (Scottish Crop Research Institute) resulted in the development of Vales Sovereign, arguably the most successful new potato variety for fifty years. It is a more sustainable potato because it requires less water, less fertilizer and is more resistant to disease than traditional varieties. Vales Sovereign won the Tesco Fresh Produce Variety of the Year Award in 2008.
Visitors will also be able to discuss Greenvale’s environmental policies and activities on the company’s stand. These include membership of The Prince’s May Day Network and the Food & Drink Federation’s ‘Federation House Commitment’. In addition Greenvale is a key consultee for DEFRA in its study of the drivers and barriers of the monitoring and reporting of Greenhouse Gas emissions.
