CST shows latest communications and security technologies at Restaurant Show ’09

Stand C50, Earls Court 2, October 12-14th 2009

CST showed the latest security technology at Restaurant 2009 Alongside its award-winning range of communications solutions, Call-Systems Technology (CST) will spotlight a new range of hi-tech security systems for the hospitality market at the Restaurant Show ’09. The range is distributed by CST’s subsidiary, Security-Systems Technology (SST), and as well as established products, such as CCTV, the stand will feature cutting edge technologies that the company says will have a dramatic impact on restaurant safety, security and human resource management.

SST: the changing face of restaurant security

Access control is becoming a big issue for all hospitality businesses. SST offers a range of access control systems using a variety of technologies including swipe cards, proximity tokens, PIN keypads and biometrics.

For example, SST’s ‘Proximity’ Access Control is demonstrated at the Show. As well as ensuring that only authorised personnel can enter controlled areas, Proximity lets them through quickly – enhancing safety, security and efficiency all at the same time. Staff simply hold the Proximity card or keyfob near the small door controller to gain entry.

SST can also provide an advanced PC-based, networked system that gives central control of all doors, including, if required, across multiple sites. The system also logs every time a controlled door is used so that management have a complete report of activities.

Staff ‘time and attendance’ is another major headache for restaurateurs, especially with numerous shift patterns, and SST will launch simple-to-use, practical solutions that guarantee absolute integrity. Using the latest hand-scanning, biometric technology, the system will allow staff to clock in and out simply by placing their hand on a compact scanner. As well as reducing payroll costs, by automatically calculating employee hours and overtime, the system is tamper-proof, robust and unaffected by dust or grease. It also eliminates ‘buddy punching’ where staff sign in for one another. The TNA and Handswipe Lite systems integrate with the most popular payroll and HR packages such as Sage and Pegasus.

Other SST security products being demonstrated live on stand C50 include CCTV and Intelligent Video Analytics, a system that (amongst other features) can automatically monitor empty areas and warns of unusual behaviour; and People Counting, which monitors the number of guests for both safety and commercial reasons.

CST: better communications for better service and better business

Show visitors will also be able to take part in live demonstrations of the latest versions of CST’s ‘Call’ hospitality paging systems. These simple, efficient and economical products are wireless, and thus easy to install, have no running costs and can improve virtually every aspect of a restaurant business, from food quality to profitability.

For example, EasyCall is a simple, table-mounted push-button system that lets the waiter know which table wants to place an order. It’s ideal for those ‘multi-room’ sites where waiting staff can’t see all the tables easily and can pay for itself within weeks, simply from the extra orders it generates and the saving on labour costs, since it frees up staff to do other things.

With ButlerCall, clients press the ‘service’ call button. With bespoke button designs, CST can adapt the functionality of the ButlerCall system for the site’s customer service requirements and match it to the meeting room or executive dining interior design. The call button unit can have several functions, for example to call hospitality, service or audiovisual support. The button message will display the service required, with the room location, on a light box, scrolling display, pager or DECT phone.

Other Call systems on show include the ever-popular WaiterCall, which allows the kitchen to alert waiters when orders are ready. It ensures drinks and food are served as quickly and efficiently as possible and, because service is faster, food quality is enhanced and tables can be turned more quickly, increasing sales. Meanwhile CustomerCall effectively ‘disguises’ queues for tables in busy bars and restaurants. Guests are given a pager when they arrive so they can buy drinks in the bar while waiting for a table – instead of queuing or walking away. As soon as a table is ready, the pager discreetly alerts the guests.

CST’s Genesis range of ‘smart’ software packages integrates all restaurant communications to ensure staff know what they need to know – instantly. Designed for larger restaurants and hotels, it provides a vital link between reception, management, back office and security, so that everyone can be contacted instantly. It links to fire alarms and security doors and works with all communications equipment, including pagers, DECT units (cordless digital phones), two-way radios and even mobile phones with the new private mobile network.
