NEW RINSE SYSTEM OFFERS BIG SAVINGS ON WAREWASHING FOR CASH-STRAPPED HOSPITAL AND HEALTHCARE SITES
The new ‘rinse water saving’ option, originally developed last year by Winterhalter for its MTR series of rack warewashers, has now been extended to its MTF large-scale flight-type systems as well. The option is set to offer cash-strapped hospital caterers huge savings in water, energy and consumables.
Flight dishwashers are becoming increasingly popular for healthcare facilities that need fast and efficient washing for large numbers at once.
The results of the new water saving option are dramatic and convincing, says Winterhalter. The option can reduce the quantity of rinse water needed by as much as thirty percent. And the savings don’t stop there, because by saving water it also reduces the amount of other resources needed, including power, detergent and rinse aid, by the same proportion.
Depending on the model, these savings can potentially be huge – up to £5,000 per year in operating costs – even more in busy hospital catering sites.
Hospitals create mountains of dirty plates, glasses, utensils and cookware. Yet, more than in any other catering situation, maximum hygiene is essential. The rinse water system is especially important because this section of the machine is traditionally the heaviest consumer of water and the point at which the final cleanliness is determined.
Bigger healthcare establishments need big dishwasher systems and Winterhalter’s MT Series of rack and flight conveyor systems, which are capable of processing thousands of items per hour, already offer several resource-saving technologies, including heat exchangers and features to reduce washwater and detergent consumption, and special fresh air drying zones.
The new rinse system is part of Winterhalter’s suite of energy efficient, environmentally-aware technologies, launched under the umbrella title of ‘Intelligent Resource Technology’ (IRT). All parts of IRT combine together to deliver tremendous reductions in energy, water and chemical usage.
Despite the speed and capacity, MT rack and flight conveyor systems need very few staff to operate them. Features like automatic start-up and AutoClean also save staff time, whilst each system is designed for easy access and servicing, making maintenance faster and simpler.
The MT range also appeals to hospitals that employ kitchen porters who are unskilled or have limited English language skills. Winterhalter says this is because, despite its sophisticated technology, the system is so easy to use that operator mistakes “simply cannot happen”. In addition, the MT has dozens of languages programmed into its control panel, including all EU languages and many others.
