Christmas puts pressure on ice supplies so it’s a time when many bars and clubs consider upgrading their machine. Even more so as the UK moves towards an American approach to ice – giving customers plenty of it to cool their drinks effectively and attractively. But as ice usage increases, what size machine is best? Now there’s no need to guess – Manitowoc has a handy online calculator that can tell you instantly.
Manitowoc is the biggest ice machine brand in the USA and its range is distributed in the UK by Winterhalter. To access the calculator simply go to the Manitowoc website’s Sizing Guide at www.manitowocice.com – click on ‘products’, then ‘ice machines’ then ‘sizing guide’ in the left hand column.
Once at the Guide, all users need to do is type in the maximum number of customers they’re likely to be serving at any one time. The Guide then works out the maximum amount of ice needed, giving the figure (being American, it’s in pounds) and suggesting some Manitowoc models that will fit the bill.
For example, if the maximum number of customers is 50, the guide calculates a need for 180lbs (82Kg) of ice, recommending the Q-270 undercounter model, which has an integral ice bin, or the S-322 narrow-footprint modular icemaker, which requires a separate ice bin. Both make dice (square) or half dice ice cubes.
For 250 customers the Manitowoc guide recommends 900lbs (408Kg) of ice from the S-1200 cube ice machine, the SF-1200 flaker or the SN1250 nugget icemaker.
